A
study carried out by the New Economic Foundation describes watching a pound
coin and where it travels in a community.
Every time it changes hands within a community, it means income for a
local person. Money that is re-spent in
a local area is as good as attracting new money into that area.
The
community of social enterprises in the south west region would grow
substantially if more trade was kept within the social enterprise
community. The money you spend in your
business on goods could help to increase the trade of other social enterprises.
Buying
goods from other social enterprises will mean that your money works harder for
its community and contributes to keeping money in communities longer. Stronger and larger social enterprises will
mean more value going into the social outcomes we are all trying to deliver.
You
may have to make more strategic decisions about how you spend money on the
goods and services that you procure.
Could you 'add more value' locally by buying from
other social enterprises?
